I am in the process of dropping a crew cab square body cab onto my 2003 lb7 duramax frame. I fell asleep at the wheel and rolled the truck on May 1st. Bought it back from insurance may 25th. I have cut the floor and firewall because my plan is to weld the square cab onto the existing floor and firewall. I had the idea planned out in my head and ended up finding videos of another guy who had the same idea. I’m going to use the duramax dash and seats in the new cab. I have never been so motivated on any project, mostly because I’m not actually building the truck for myself but for my ex girlfriend… Who is still a huge part of my life and the only woman I will ever have the desire to marry. Her dad built her mom from frame up a custom crew cab short box square body and her mom still drives it. The duramax was already her dream truck but now it will be even more of her dream truck. I finally get the new cab on Friday and will be obsessively compulsively going at it trying to get this done as soon as I can.

I think eventually I will get her back either way… but the truck is just kind of a love story like her parents. Her parents are really cool and I know her family hasn’t given up hope. She lives with my little sister. I have been seeing a relationship counselor ever since she left me. I was just young and dumb. I got into a new line of work that she had been wanting me to do, raised my credit score 140 points in just a few months, got a loan on her dream truck, then she started dating a guy I’ve known forever… I started drinking a lot and messed up real bad with rolling the duramax. He just recently broke up with her and said it was my fault. So she’s mad at me at the moment. Her brother is the one bringing the new cab to me. Her brother is one of the coolest guys my age I’ve ever met and her dad is even cooler he’s a square body hoarder and I love it

I came out having busted the scar tissue on my face open and a cracked rib. I already have metal rods in my back and titanium collar bones from getting run off the road in my bronco a few years back. Rolling the duramax scared her and she came and saw me the next night crying. We spent every day together for a week after that. I am getting a dui or a dwai because I had two tall beers about 2 hours before I rolled it. I have since quit drinking. My insurance told me they won’t cover anything and best I can do is buy the truck back. That’s when I thought of this. My goal is to have her driveable within a month from getting the new cab. Rather than extending the cab or bed I’m just going to build a custom flat bed for it

That's quite a story

I'll be following along myself, as this one isn't the run of the mill swap

Ahh, young love. Remember how that twisted up yer knickers fellas?

Nice to see you are considering some positive changes and I also would enjoy progress reports on the project.

This should be one heck of a build if you can stay with it to completion.

Since you put your Love Life Issues out there... I would not just GIVE this truck to this young woman. Get it finished, you drive it and if she is "seduced" by The Truck she gets you and the truck as a package deal. It would SUCK to see this truck being driven by someone else with her in the passenger seat while you sit and watch. Women are strange creatures.

I wasn’t lit I was just tired cause I slept in the back seat the night before and hiked my ass off trying to match a huge deer shed. I stopped at a brewery and had two tall beers and a burger. I had been drinking a lot of whiskey the month leading up to that and sometimes was driving after. It was a wake up call to not be like my alcoholic father. And the sheds were actually on my passenger seat. And I’m definitely going to drive it for quite a while. I’m not just going to tell her it’s hers she wouldn’t take it anyways.

Drivable in a month is an ambitious goal IMO, especially if you have a day job and any other responsibilities in life (the horse in the background?).

Keep it in perspective and don't get discouraged when you run into snags. Good luck!

I got the cab on Friday night, got her all gutted and chopped, and got her set on the chassis last night. Now for a little trimming and a whole lot of welding.
