So today and yesterday ive been swapping the gears. Im putting a 7.625 carrier(out of an s10) with 3.42's in place of the original 7.5" 2.29's it had originally. ******* PITA. Was going great till i was reassembling. Put the s10 side spiders on the axle shafts and spun the axle shaft(click click click) ........damn, wrong spline count.... So then i swapped in the monte side spiders, slide them on, put the idler spiders in and ran the crosspin in. Theres a HUGE gap not quite 1/8" between the idle spiders and the carrier. SO then i pulled those out and tried the s10 idlers, they were to FAT to fit. So now im in a bind.
My options:
1. Shim the **** out of it(idlers and side spiders)
2. New axles( get 28 spline)
3. Find a spider set for a large window/small window 7.625 carrier for 26 spline.

The cars tore apart in my driveway and i need to get it back together......
Anyone have any ideas??????

OH FUGGGGggg, run the 2:29s, them`ll give You some real good speed, especially with a non OD transmixer.
Install a manual trans with then 2:29s, 90 at 3000 rpms.

the 2.29's are out of the housing and the 3.42 pinion is in......... Im thinking ill try and get another s10 axle............ this time with a 7.5 carrier instead of a 7.625, even though its stronger. FUCKKKKK. I really dont want to dish out 260$ for a pair of axles, and i cant find a spider kit. I could space it for now, and go till i have the funds, or she blows.

Update: Found another differential. Its a 26 spline 7.5" carrier out of an earlier s10(86). To bad i cant use the gears on it XD. 4.11's wouldnt do to good in a car with no overdrive and 26" tall tires.

Mother of GAWD.........today isnt fun.
Got put together yesterday, sealed the cover, painted it.

Well today i filled it full of gear lube. After i got that done i put the driveshaft up in plane and was tightening it up when.......... the pinion had play and was moving up and down.....****. So i pulled the front all apart and compared yolks, they were the same. So i put it back together and tried it again, still had play. Pulled it apart AGAIN, pulled the seal off and pulled the bearing out, then pulled the crush sleeve, the sleeve hadnt ever compressed, so i put in the crush sleeve that came on this pinion, put the bearing on, tapped the yolk on to set the bearing in, tapped the yolk out, put the seal in, then put the yolk on for the last time, tightened it up. I started thingking to my self, YAYAYAYAY no play. Guess what. NO BACKLASH EITHER, ****. so now i have to pull the carrier out and play with shims again.............

Oh boy is this fun.......

And that rear cover was a bitch to get back off, it was sealed GOOD.

If im going to run these, i need to find 2 15x8, or 9"s. I can run 235's fine on these wheels. But i need a little wider for 295's. These are 7.5"s if i remember right. And i have 2 whiteletter tires for the front.

Lol, I recently destroyed a 3.73 ring gear because I forgot the bolts were reverse thread. They were no match for my impact.
