It has been a long time since I have had to do any engine diagnosis...
I built my 355 out of a 95 pickup.
It has sat for some time..like 2 years.
Running like crap......carb dirty, but switching to Fitech RBI.

The #2 cylinder not firing, or maybe it is.
Header pipe only lukewarm when others are quite hot.
Spark plug is black, but dry.
I suspect they all are black; running rich...
I swapped in another plug wire to no avail.
Gonna try a new plug when they arrive.

Compression about 140# or so, so no valve problem.

Where should i be looking??

Are you using a stock type HEI? Have you looked inside the cap for something odd/out of place like a messed up post?

Swap plug and wire between 2 cylinders, see if the problem follows the move.

Upon further investigation, header pipes for cyls. 2.6.and 7 are very cool after a 30 second run...
Dunno what's up.......... Carb is a mess......will re-evaluate once I get the Fitech up and running.
