Do you think you could replace a powersports battery with a deep cell/car battery

I use my polaris ranger for spraying weeds in the summer and I hook it up to the battery to spray. Im fairly certain doing that sucked the life out of the old battery I just replaced with a new AGM powersports battery. The pump probably draws a lot. Late season I used a deep cell car batt and just recharged it when done.

THe battery area under the seat could easily be expanded by making a custom tray. If you could wire it up, do you think that would work better for the darn thing? Im not sure if a deep cell would be hurt starting a small engine often or if the alternator system would be over-taxed by how much it can be discharged theoretically

may sound dumb but I think I halved the last battery lifespan by hooking to it and figured a deep cell can handle that periodic use

The sprayer didn’t hurt the small battery unless you discharged it deeply many times and/or didn’t recharge it after use. You didn’t say if you ran it dead a bunch of times or not.
If you put in a bigger battery it will not be any different other than it will run longer before needing recharged. The alt on the machine isn’t affected either way. And presuming you’re discharging more than charging, either battery needs to be charged up after use.
It’s a 6 in 1 half dozen the other “upgrade” imo.
And you now have a new AgM battery to use.

if you are running the atv while spraying, you really shouldn't be taxing the battery.
i run a sprayer quite often with my polaris sportsman x2.

a bigger battery certainly wont hurt and the starting requirements of an atv is pretty low so i doubt it would hurt a 'trolling motor' battery any.

as above, if you aren't charging the battery enough while the atv is running, you'll still need a battery tender at the end of the day.

my wife's golf cart is this way.
it's a gas cart but obviously needs a battery to start.
i put an xtra large 'trolling motor' battery in it so she could run the work lights.
(golf carts are weird as they don't 'idle'. they are either running and moving or not running and standing still)

the cart doesn't run long enough to charge the battery so every couple of days, it goes on the battery tender via permanent pigtail.

You could always run a small group size combo battery. I run one of those on my boat for starting (and backup shore power, and a second deep cycle for stereo and air pumps). The boat has a 4.3 V6 engine.

What pump are you running? Basically any 12v spray pump you can buy from the store will not be too much for a typical side by side.

If you are interested you can run a dedicated battery for the pump (a cheapie walmart u1 about 25 bucks) Use a 4 prong driving light relay about 5 bucks for a battery isolater. I can draw you the schematic. Battery will charge at about 15 amps which shouldn't hurt the Polaris.I can make it charge at less but I think 15 would be fine
