Edit: double post
im also not against retreading, i do have places around me that would put the same tread design on the tires for a good price, since 200+ a tire would kill. i can probably find one that offers a snow tread. this evaded my memory until now.i was planning on taking my two worst, fronts, putting back up front, and putting new on rear IF i went this route.

thoughts on retread? Hell for my cost i could put a whole set of retread

okay that is good to know. so since im not gonna be using this often, or in such severe conditions, a front locker might not be something that fits me, esp if it bindsn easy and snap. but perhaps LSD even if it slips too much would still provide something? Or falls flat?

Don't let that guy scare you

You just need bigger axles! Lmao!!!
Not really.
Bigger axles means bigger tires.... And usually with bigger tires means bigger motors...

Bigger motors + bigger tires + front lockers = demolished axle shafts.

Unless of course you feel it's necessary to move to something like clark 20 ton axle, then the last thing you'll be worried about it blowing axle shafts... It'll me like, how long till your tranny dies.

No matter what, front lockers are destructive on axles.

I have a grizzly locker in my s10's dana 60. But I also have 39.5 tires, I would imagine the minute something gets in a bind and put the hammer down... Somethings gonna blow, and it won't be that locker... Probably be a u joint... Which wipes out the spindle, lockout, and everything else around it.
Lots of tears, lots of money.

Oh geez......
Mud fish. LMFAO.
Lincoln locker is low budget terminology for welding the spider gears in the axle solid.

It is a permanently locked differential.

But it seems like you're not a fan of anything permanent.
im not fun havent you learned!
I am fan of permanent things, its either a comfort level thing, a knowledge thing, or an attachment thing.
:(
I would be okay installing a something that gives traction but doesnt bind the thing in turns lol, that would be permanent in most ways.

Im also a fan of welding, once i get welder going and get good(gonna take a lot, i havent welded in years) im gonna be a stick welder master. i promise.

You're telling me, I have a blazer that don't even run yet.

BTW.
With lockers in the front, if you adjust your front knuckle stops, and limited how far the u joint travels on a turn, it'll lessen the chances of a blown axle shaft.

Something not-permanent im doing thats kinda sad is moving my gas tank to the passenger side so i can use the fuel door instead of my wheel well for gas filling, and only because i want to support my floor board but my cab is so rotted that the gas tank would interfere or start load bearing my seat and whatever fix i attempt.

Thats sad. But once its replaced or done properly that will revert, but i figured out the switchng valve and wiring for gas tanks was shoddy redone years back and it would require rewiring, re plumbing, new valve, etc just to fix that to OE, so might as well do one tank for now.

Do NOT weld the gears in your front axle, unless you only wanna go straight.

I was referring to a Lincoln locker in the rear axle.

I highly recommend like what I got, the grizzly locker.

It locks up like a Detroit locker (Detroit is basically a temporary, permanent locker) I call it a destroit locker because it trashes everything around it.

The grizzly locks in solid when there is variance in wheel speed BUT, on turns, it unlocks. Unlike a a destroit locker where you gotta top turning and stop applying the gas for it to unlock.

Or if you got 1200-1500 chilling around, buy a air locker.

Those are really cool.

You apply air via a mini compressor, it locks the tires like a spool, when you're done and wanna turn again, turn the compressor off.

By the way, it actually means I'm EXTREMELY over compensating.
Just ask anyone that doesn't have a big truck but wants one.

With a welded rear axle, on terrain where you'd get traction, one of the tires will pop and bark when you make a sharp turn.

Because obviously..... The tires can no longer turn at different speeds anymore.

I dont know, you speak a big game but you play a big game, thats double what people who compensate do.My friend keeps going for these guys and they are all pencil dicked and scrawny, one dressed like inner city which was a weird combo.

She says that its good or they are big, but I dont know man. That kind of surpressed angst and compensation means somethingand based on the patterns of who she finds id say it has to do with an unhealthy fixation on an arbitrarily important subject.

But the guy who talks big, can back it up, and isnt proving anything to anyone is lot more likely to be at inner peace which usually corresponds to confidence and not worrying about such frivilous matters, which usually means

Ive always liked big 4x4 trucks since I was a tiny little guy. I ain't Got anything to prove to anyone. My wife loves me. Thats all that matters to me :)

To add to this, I actually enjoy destroying my big trucks... Something the mall crawler homos won't do.

I'll build em, tear'em up, then fix em, and tear em up again.

So in order of stuff from cheapest to most expensive, it goes like.

Factory G80 gov lock unit
Lincoln locker
Mini spool/lockbox locker
Solid spool
Actual positraction
Detroit locker
Grizzly locker
Air lockers

There's alot of variances in between those, but that's the generic lockers people know of.
