Detroit to ARB

I recently had my D60 and 14ff completely rebuilt and a Detroit installed in the rear. Long story short, I want to pull the Detroit and put in an ARB.

How much setup will there be? I know some clearance has to be made with some grinding inside the case for the ARB to fit, but can I open the adjusters a specific number of turns and put in the ARB in then close the adjusters the same number of turns? I will recheck the pattern, but it should be pretty straightforward correct?

Which Detroit? Which ARB? If it is just a lunchbox locker then you should be able to count the turns when you take out the carrier, replace the inside guys of the carrier, and put it back together without messing with any of the setup of the rear end.

Which Detroit? Which ARB? If it is just a lunchbox locker then you should be able to count the turns when you take out the carrier, replace the inside guys of the carrier, and put it back together without messing with any of the setup of the rear end.
As far as I know there is only one Detroit locker and ARB for a 14ff. The options are pretty limited for the 14ff.

Since your pinion depth is presumably already set, slap the ring gear on the ARB, bolt it in, and then just play with the adjuster screws on each side until your backlash is correct.
Seems easy enough haha.


When i swapped from a open front to a grizzly in my d60 front axle, i took my old carrier and grizzly to the shop and measured the differences in ring gear surface to carrier bearing surface, etc etc on the surface plate and height stand and was able to quickly determine the correct shim thicknesses, since youre working with a 14 bolt, and no shims are needed, just start with counting the turns, install, do those turns again to reinstall, put a indicator and check backlash, if its out, adjust the adjuster things until its correct.

If I do the swap, yes. Although with what I’ve seen for shipping rates lately it may not make sense for us versus buying/selling locally. I will let you know as things proceed.

Yeah, but you didnt say detroit LOCKER... you just said detroit. I wasn't sure if you were talking about a locker or the trutrac, which is also a detroit and replaces the whole carrier.

Regardless, the ARB air lockers are a completely new carrier so you will need to set up the rear again and probably wont be able to just count the number of rotations.
