All-data sucks cause it has an early cutoff date, but if anyone needs info off of it, my school has a subscription(all cars/models).

Do you have any plain-jane day/night tab type mirrors that fit an 81 silverado? I was wondering why mine was all cockeyed and why I couldn't put my sun visor down all the way because it hit the mirror. Some person decided to drive a screw up through it between the ball swivel and housing, which causes to be at a weird angle and I cannot get it centered in the cab. If I center it, I cannot adjust it to where I can see out the back window. I get a good view at the passenger side of the truck though.

Any suggestions on how to mount the newer mirrors on the square. The metal mounting plate is smaller on the squares then newer trucks

I'd say you need to find the button that fits the newer mirror and remove the old one. Not sure how to remove the old button. My fear would be cracking the windshield in the process.

Retro, did you ever have a look to see if you have a plain-jane mirror that will fit an 81 Silverado?

I am so sorry, I had not looked but yes. I have this one but it does have a small chip in the left corner. I believe it came from my 1981. It's not an original though, I know. I could possibly have one when I put a compass/temp mirror in Raylanr's 1988 though.

Take a lighter and heat up the the mount, it should come off then unless it's been like superglued on.

They have rear view mirror glue kits at auto parts stores. Not too difficult to do, just need to make sure to clean the glass well.

I cannot see the pics too well on my phone. Will look at work tomorrow.

That doesn't look too bad. The issue with mine is it must have got sloppy somebody drove a screw up through the bottom of it to tighten it up. That is all fine and great except it won't swivel towards the center, and gives an odd angle for looking behind the truck through it, and the sun visor cannot go all the way down because it hits the mirror.

Pm'ed my address.
