Going to repair the radio hole that was cut out on my 84. Getting a 78ish truck that is rusted and not worth fixing. Pretty sure the dash bezel is the same from 73-87 but would like some conformation on that. Thanks

check the headlight switch area.

wiper switch in the dash vs on the turn signal stalk.

check for a/c vent in the bezel vs no a/c vent.

good luck!

84 should have column mounted wiper and headlight controls, a 78 will have dash mounted wiper switch and headlight switch. the bezels are a slightly different profile i believe to accommodate the changes to the 81-87 dash pad design

Right, there is a difference. As mentioned above wiper will be on the dash before 84 and the over shape. 81+ has a "smooth" face while the earlier ones have 3 sections.
Try to fine one on CL.

Yes, they have a different profile based on the style of pad. I had good pictures of the differences, but I think I lost them on my old phone.

Thanks for the information. Guess I’ll find a correct one. Still a lot of parts to use on the truck.

I wanted to preserve my OEM dash bezel on my '74 build, so I bought another " '74 " off Ebay. I reworked the gauge holes to accept my Speedhut gauges and had it hydro-dipped in Red/Black Carbon Fiber. When I went to install it, I discovered that the light hole was huge (on my OEM the light knob come out of a small hole in a raised pyramid shape) and the hole for the wiper slider was wider and offset to the right - real close to the bend in the bezel.

Essentially, the Ebay dash bezel was unusable in my application and it's going to be sold.

I made the mistake of assuming the seller's description was accurate and that '73-'87 actually means everything in that year range will fit. IT DOESN'T. All it means is that the mounting screws will line up. . . sort of. I also made the mistake of not comparing the two bezels before doing the work, as it was 90 miles away at the time. My Ebay bezel is clearly a later '70s version.

It seems that there are a lot of one-off's in the '73-'74 years that makes the '73-'87 designation misleading on many, many parts when you own a '73-'74.

That's a '75-'77 bezel if you are still curious.

Dash pad looks wild! I like it. I have seen stuff like this but I did not know you could coat original plastic that way. Who does this kind of stuff?

My '82 dash bezel has the headlight hole like that, but I believe the upper part is different to match the different dash pad.

@Super-Dave

Could you just fit the later headlight switch to your early metal dash and still use the custom hydro-dipped bezel?

Yeah, the headlight hole is like that through '83, but the wiper switch hole changed slightly for '78. That one is '75-'77 based off of the wiper hole and also the contour of the face around the gauges. Starting in '78, the face was divided into different sections with a raised edge bordering the different sections.
