What about the 71'?

It will have one or the other style hub. In 71' I believe they were the big hub, but that was a long time ago. Until you put eyes on it this is all speculation. I've seen 10 bolts with big hubs. I bought a 72' d44 and it had little hubs. Get your hands on it and we'll identify it for you.

Actually the spindles are the same and you can get bearings at rockauto or lmc. The inner race that rides on the spindle is the same diameter. I have a set of each kind of hub and have switched back and forth without issue. Swapping the spindle won't change anything. If you have a set of newer hubs you can put them right on.

They are very close but they are not the same. The bearings from one spindle do not fit the other, rock auto lists the same bearings as the parts stores LM10494, A37 and 368A are all to small to fit the spindle. The lm10494 bearing fits right on the other spindle I have with no issue.
The parts money tried to tell me I had to press the bearing onto the spindle, even called another customer over that is known to deal with these and he said the same thing. After I explained how it goes together and showed them a pic from google they had no idea.

they seem pretty rust free I would check the fluid maybe if I felt advantageous to get the axle cleaned up and painted

there will be a BOM number stamped on the front driver side of your front axle. there will also be a stamping on the 14 bolt axle tube and front lower driver side of the diff.

the dana spicer website has a tool where you can enter the BOM, they also describe decoding the date stamps on the axle
