dads cammed tbi need computer tuning?

Hey tbi gurus...my dad converted his 86 c10 from carb to tbi using all the stuff from like a 90s van. He also swapped from a th350 trans to a 4L60e.

The engine has swirl port heads, a large cam (enough to make it lope good-hwve to get the numbers on it later this evening) and is bored .030. Stock converter.

Hes concerned about mileage...he thought that with the overdrive and tbi he would get much better but he isnt...hes getting about the same mileage as with the carb and 3 speed.

He is using the stock computer...does it need tuning to make it run better? Any help is appreciated. Hes pissed that its not doing any better lol

Stock TBI tune w/ a large cam will run very rich due to the MAP sensor seeing low vacuum (i.e. it thinks the motor is under load).

Do you by any chance have the cam specs or what cam it be?
How far are you from San Antonio, or do you already know of a dyno tuner close to you?
Did he get a controller for the trans, or is that still in the works?

anytime tbi is not stock or very close to it, tune is in order.

tbi does not like big cams you have to stay pretty mild with cams for tbi

It will probably be cheaper to put the carb back on it. I hope that's a 4l60 trans. If it's a 4l60e, as mentioned, you will need a controller for it. If it's a 4l60 you will only need a tv cable.
