Looks like a good idea I just don't know about using the radiator hose clamps on it...I think if I wanted to fix something this route I would have at least used a band clamp or something....

a hose clamp is technically a band clamp. and they're not there for anything but making sure the roll pins stay in place. mine doesn't have a clamp on it, just the roll pins.

I'm curious about fixing the wobbly weener at the end. It's labeled "snout" in the diagram. Just weld that up too?

I found the best thing to weld that with is a 6011, many mig and 7014 beads broke til I found that out

If you're using a stick welder, 7018 Rod would be my preference.
