What’s the best box for the job?

I’ve been researching the site and external sources before posting but can’t find what I’m looking for. My current steering situation it’s past its prime and I am upgrading to crossover/high steer. I know that I will need a 2WD box. I have been looking at PSC and Redhead. I prefer a tight, no slop, strong, quality box with longevity.

Mostly road use occasional off-road, running 35 X 14.5’s on 86 K10. The truck has already been equipped with frame braces and lift. Just purchased the crossover/high steer kit with Reid knuckles from Sky.

I've read Redhead a lot with these trucks and all say they are great.

I looked into Redhead and PSC as I had heard good things about them. But decided to go a cheaper route and went with a Lares 11248 unit from RockAuto 3 years ago for $336 shipped. I went with a new unit instead of one of their re-manufactured ones. And I was led to believe it was made in Minnesota. Still working fine with 37s.

After doing a fair amount of looking, reading reviews, and comparing prices, I went with the new Lares from RockAuto. Honestly, $350 ($401.25 tax & shipping) for “new”. Paid $425 total with some extra items, shipping, and no core charge.

Bluetop, Redhead, AGR, and Borgeson are in a category for about $600-$700 and required a core (for the most part). PSC and Saginaw was the upper tier starting at $800 with core (if applicable).

Saw some good and bad reviews with every product but I’ll take my chances at that price.

Thanks for the help.
