Some previous owner of my truck installed a plastic dash cover. Don't know how old it is, but it's cracked at top/center near the windshield from "bowing up" in the heat. I now keep a pair of gloves on that spot to hide it and shade it from the sun.
The cover also pulled away from the dash in a few places from ash tray to glove box. I used some black RTV to re-attach it, and came up with a Rube Goldberg engineering solution to keep pressure on the dash cover until the RTV fully cured. Seems to be working OK. But it still creaks in a few places.
If your truck is garaged or under a cover, you may be OK for a few years. Mine sits outside all the time with the windows up, and gets at least 5 hours of sun each day. And in the sun the cover warps even more, but goes back to normal when it cools.
I'd say the manufacturer used plastic unsuitable for the job. But just try returning one after a year or so, even if you bought it new!
What say you, vendors? Why do you sell this c-rap?
