I pulled the tank when it started acting up to check the sock filter and the fuel return is a open 1/4 line that dumps into the top of the sending unit and the other line went to the vapor can that I removed so I guess the tank vents through the cap and the sending unit has no vent, 3 line total, fuel pickup, fuel return and the vapor line that went to a vapor can that had a vacuum on it. please take the adult diaper delivery sign off your van LOL

haha lol. I guess adult diapers are kinda creepy heh?

The 3rd line that went to the vapor canister was/is the vent line. The canister simply collects the vapor from the vented line so that it can return it to the fuel bowl of the carburetor. And in the process relieves any vapor pressure that builds in the tank. You could simply put a debris filter on the end of that line and be done.

FYI the gas cap will not vent. Your tank will pressurize enough to push fuel out onto the ground through you fuel pump, vent line, carburetor, before the cap will vent lol I found this out the hard way!

I agree with Boone Dog lol that what ever is causing your dieseling problems is probably the issue. Is it the original carb?

It has a new 600 holley on it, it had a Q jet on the smoking 305 when I got it, going to bump the timing down a little and replace the thermostat this weekend and hopefully get started back on the other problem of the day that the truck makes but that's the fun rite?
