No, it will just trap crap and try to rust. Not your truck likely since it looks like a garage queen, but that’s why the seams in the bed are sealed.I dodn't seal my seams when I put it back together. Guess it could come back to bit me but I figured water will just pass through and not get trapped.
I’m sure it works great. I feel it’s basically the same stuff as auto seam sealer, having used both, as both are urethane sealant. Never looked to see if 5200 is paintable though as I’ve only used it in marine applications.I used 3M 5200 marine. You can normally find it at you big box stores. I use it because it doesn't dry as fast as the automotive seam seal, so you time to come back and smooth it out if needed.
