Go to a junkyard and get a pair of pillar plastics to practice on and try.

Yea i know how you feel, last year mine was my DD and it had to be drivable the next day when i would tear something apart, now that i have a little car also, i can work longer on my truck.

For mounting the tweeters it was a suggestion for the fellow above.. I've done lots of fiber glass work for sub boxes and such..

Ok, I have one question and not sure if this the correct thread, I jsut joined the forum.
Has anybody moved the radio (single din) up to the vent on the right side of the gauge cluster and the vent to the radio location?
Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

That was going to be my suggestion, but only for a non AC truck.

I need a bit of help here
So I've got a 4 hour drive tomorrow..and a problem an My neighbor (a mechanic of 30+ years) and I are lost
It doesn't make sense at all
I was driving home from school and I hit a pot hole
Since then my radio doesn't work over 1500rpm
I have subs too, 2 12s with an amp and capacitor, they go out soon as I hit 1000rpm
If the engine is off and key is on it's fine no problems but with engine running it only works in gear (idles over 1000)
Radio stays on and I can change channels and everything
Just no sound
All fuses are good including fuse for amp wire from battery
All grounds are clean and bolted tight
When stopped it comes back on and the subs hit hard
Soon as it goes over 1000rpm it's gone and at 1500rpm treble speakers go too
What's weird is when my wipers go up or come down it comes back on but when they hit the end of the stroke it goes back off
It acts like it's the transmission, brakes and engine all mess it up and another power source fixes it
I've spent two days tracing and continuity testing wires
I don't care about the radio working as much as I do about frying my electrical on the side of an interstate

Have you tried disconnecting the stereo? Alternator charging properly? Tested the battery?

I'd suggest finding another ride, and not waiting until the last minute to figure it out next time.

Never heard of this kind of problem. I think you'd benefit from some more testing to see what exactly is happening. I'm guessing the problem happens no matter what gear it's in? If so, get someone to rev it up enough for the amps to go out and start checking each amp to see 1)if the remote on/off wire has 12v; and 2) if the amp's hot wire has 12v. Based on your findings, you could hopefully narrow it down to the source of the issue.

I've never heard of it happening before, but could it be that at a certain RPM, a bad alternator starts to short to ground, which would drop voltage on the battery to the point that the power supplies in the amps drop out? I'm sure someone else on here could chime in on the possibilty of that, but that's the only way I could think of to tie engine speed to power supply.
