C10 vs K10 rearend

The rear-end in 86 C10 started making noise, and a guy down the street had a 86 K10 rear-end I ended up buying, completely rebuilt for $200! Other than the axels being 6 lug, is there any other differences?

find out if his truck had G80 in it.

G80 is not so good feature for the longevity of it, and your truck may be lighter overall and put less weight on that. Find out the ratio, if its different you need a new speedo gear too

Had the exact same gearing in it..3:80 I will get in touch with him, but I'm pretty sure its a one wheel spin like mine...

I’m not super well versed in 4wd stuff but I believe they’re basically the same besides the axles.

Define completely rebuilt. Is that what you were told or it has paperwork? Cuz that’s awful cheap. I would not install it without cracking it open for an inspection

Since you can compare them side by side check the length of the shock mounts and the pinion angle. Is the new one the same ratio as your old one?

You can probably swap your 5-lug axles into the new rear.

new brakes, wheel cylinders, everything...I will defiantly take the rear cover off! The only reason he sold it is because he ended up finding a 12 bolt for his. Stay in his garage for 2 years and he was tired of moving it around.

Dang, that’s awesome! Definitely verify the ratio to make sure you’re not putting like a 2.73 in place of a 3.73 but as long as the spline count and width is the same, you should be able to swap axles and go

I believe the shock mounts are in a different position from C to K trucks (rotational position).

Axles should swap right over.

I believe you are correct, but it wouldn't hurt to check, and inquiring minds want to know.

If the shock mounts are different ( front / back - different spacing etc. ) it would be easier to grind off the old upper ( frame ) shock mounts and relocate / bolt back in, rather than having to re-weld the lower ones on the axle - No ?..
