So I have my 77 C30 and I am thinking about trying to convert to 4wd. I figure the easiest way to do this is to just pick up a donor vehicle and scavenge what I need off the donor. Question is, what years should I look at for a donor? My understanding is I will need to change the TH400 that I have as part of the conversion, so if possible I would like to find a 4L80 in the donor, but I don't know if that limits what I can take off it. What should I be looking for? What should I stay away from?
I suppose I should mention that this is not meant to be an off-road mudder or anything like that. I am looking for something I can use 4 season in the Cascade foothills. This truck can get a little squirrely when it is wet and I don't want to know how much worse that gets when we start getting snow and ice.
