Interesting to know. I was about 99% certain for 2002 at least, that Allison was the standard OEM for the 8.1 and Duramax if you got the Auto Trans option.

I was going to post that the Allison wasn't even the standard auto transmission for the Duramax, but the salesman that I talk to wasn't 100% sure on the info, so I retracted it. I know there was a "package" for you to get both the Duramax and the Allison under the same package name, but I am pretty sure you could get the 4L80 behind the Duramax too, at a cheaper price point. I am 100% you got the 4L80 behind the Duramax in the vans.

I am 100% positive the Allison was NOT the standard auto trans for the 8.1, the 4L80 was. The Allison was an option behind the 8.1 like bucket said.

I'm pretty sure the Allison is the standard trans for a duramax, if not I would have seen at least 1 4l80 duramax truck, and the reason for the van duramax having a 4l80 is something to do with the Allison not fitting in the tunnel properly

:hump: put a round eye front end on it and it'd be perfect :D

That would be the first thing I did! 79 headlight bezels with 73 grille! Still want to do a grille swap on my truck.

Yup, I think Mark is right, only way to get a Duramax with the 4l80 was in a van.
