Too bad it has no rockers left. One year only can suck though, like my 94 S10 when it came to dash stuff.

Not in this case. That Engine/Trans Combo went on for many forward years. The Dana 60 and NP205 was on all previous years so there wouldn't be much of a problem. Same powertrain in the 88-90 with exception of the added 4L80-E Overdrive trans.

It is cool. Must be a week diesel. Not a tow rig, and only good for 62 mph with 3.73's? Seems to me a 4BT would out do that thing. As he says though, would be a good farm truck and it's bet it's real good on mpg.

It's a small diesel from farm equipment.
Not the best choice for a swap
But to each his own

I kinda figured it was. I had thought about seeing what I could do with my dads Case 580B Backhoe. He' s given up on it. I think that is a Perkins 4 cyl motor. It would be cool for a truck to stay on his property. The thing about those farm diesels is they are industrial stregth and will last forever and ever even though they don't make alot of power.

Yeah, even though that's a 6 cylinder diesel its a tractor engine and is probably governed at a really low speed too. Up the max RPM, give it a few pounds of boost and more fuel and it could probably double its power output without hurting it at all.

The Perkins is a good swap for something small
A jeep or a small pickup

The company I work for has several JCB 520 telehandlers, they have a Perkins 4cyl in them. They are easy to repair and they sound neat too, but I would not want to put one in a road going truck. I think it would work if it's in front of a manual trans with a granny low, but beyond level ground it would not be useful.
