....found a crack in a coil that shorted out the other 2 also. Luckily is was related to her car accident so inusrance covered it, since they said it shorted out the ECM too. All that after going thru a puddle of water when it was raining.
That is f'd up. New cars suck ass.

I am not so sure about that. I remember making tons of money back in the early 80's with a can of stuff that dried out points distributors. I waited across the big puddle at the intersection and was getting $10-$20 for each start up. LMAO, I'd say $20, I can get you going. I'd ask if it was their lunch money or all they had, and settled for $10 many times. But a helluva lot cheaper than a tow truck and days missed wages at work. I never did let anyone know what was in the can since I painted it black so noone knew my secret.
But now this new car, my daughter was in an accident. And obviouusly noone noticed the fender hit the coil and broke the plastic coil housing during the wreck. So she had the car back from repair for 2 days, then it started raining like hell on her way home from work. Hit a dip with puddled water, and the car died. So it actually was a direct result of the car accident, it just got overlooked.

That's still crazy how that stuff all chain reacted. Who'd of thunk a cracked coil would blow out the ones and and the ECM. I mean, if you are working on your own car and accidently, unknowingly crack a coil, or it if just does it for some unknown reason, look at what will happen to everything else. Just seems like the new cars have too much **** to go wrong.

This is true, in an old car, the coil would have shorted out and been done. BUT, its a trade off. I'll take the new for the safety features, fuel economy and lasting longer as far as powertrain. Remember back in the day when you were supposed to change spark plugs every 10K miles and you bought a new car and got a 5000 mile 6 mo warranty and that wasn't bumper to bumper. I am more reffering to late 60's early 70's. We just have to suck it up and look at the trade off and compromise cuz thats what it is.

Nowadays a car can easily got 300k miles if properly maintained when back in the day a 100k mile car was considered junk!!

Yep, you are both right. And for a fact, this is why odometers rolled over at 100,000. Cars weren't expected to even last 100,000 miles. Think of this, the first GMC truck. Anyone know what the horsepower rating was and what the mpg was on the first truck???? I know it was 50hp and guessing at about 10-11 mpg. Efficency has come a very long way.
