i think 1979 was an oddball year...Started with the 100 MPH speedo, I've seen them with an 85 MPH speedo with the same font and I've seen '79s with the newer 85 MPH speedo.

I know I want to put 100mph speedos in my 85's. I need to find one that has the lights in the right place with the notch out. It might not even exist and I may have to modify that on my own. I might even decide to do that Camero Speedo and Tach that's we've seen done and looked badass !!!

Use the Camaro parts and then modify a 2+ ton truck cluster bezel for the warning lights...Then it will look factory and not really out of place.

I could do that, or do my own warning lights. I've done my own Warning lights on my 64GMC cuz I had good Stewart Guages, but the gf, my dad, and I didn't always just state the guages, so I added Oil Pressure light, and COLD and HOT lights. The GF knew not to move the truck until the Blue light went off, or risked bending valves and push rods.

That's also a 100mph speedo. Weren't they 85mph by 79? I think so. Must be the 100mph that come with the factory tach option. Certianly does have some nice factory options. That would be one, I'd like to keep OEM for the most part and not tear it up. I'd have to get me another one for wheeling.

I've had a couple 79's, they both had the 100mph speedo. While I don't doubt Retro, I'll go out on a limb and say the 100mph speedos were far more common in '79.
