Your right and it will go to 300k miles so by the time I would be done fixing the body I would be 9 grand into it if I did it myself and have a pretty nice ride I guess. Mabey it's sour grapes because I can't justify spending that much on a truck right now. Thanks for putting up with my pissn and moanin.

 that's why there's that saying of "It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it". Everyone has a different view point of what something is worth. There's no right or wrong answer to it :)

I think what would really be nice if GM addresses the cab/rocker rot issues going forward so in 20 years the K2XX+ aren't rusted out trash.

Rot out equals more people buying vehicles more often so GM is counting on this and will profit from it as will the other auto makers. The only way they'll care is if the issue is ridiculous enough to happen within the warranty period

This.

Another thing I've noticed up in the rust belt is how quickly the brake lines on the '99 and up trucks are rusting through too. I can understand needing lines on a truck that's 20-25 years old, but it seems as if they need them now by the 10 year mark.

Exactly right! I had every brake line from my master cylinder down replaced on my 2001 Dodge truck. The truck has 50000 miles on it. Cheap ass Mexican ****'s built it down there with the cheapest metal. Now let me tell you that cost me some serious coin to have it done. I didn't want to bend it all by hand. I knew it was going to be a bitch. It took the shop 4 days to get it done and boy did I get raped. I am still pissed about that. The manufacturer should have to replace something like that not the owner. In any event I replaced the line on my 79 myself. Yeah if I knew then what I knew now I would have done the job on the Dodge myself. At the time I didn't have the time to replace it.:lazer:

Rant over.

I understand the reasoning, but if it begins to affect perception and people purchasing because they don't want rust-buckets, they will need to address it.

The GMT900s are already rusting out, so that issue still may be warranty, but I've heard a lot of denied GMT900 rust warranty claims.

Yeah, I completely agree with you. The fact of the matter is very few things are made up to the standard of quality that they once were and that goes for vehicles too and it's sad. For vehicles, they've made huge improvements in things like drivetrain and driving comfort but they're really dropped the ball with everything else. Metal is thinner so vehicles are rusting out faster. Interior is often times full of plastic pieces and parts that break after only a few years. Back in the day, vehicles didn't last because the motors gave up. These days vehicles don't last because they turn to dust so quickly.

My wife drives a 2007 Suburban. It's in good shape right now but I'm keeping a close eye out for this very thing. I wouldn't be surprised if I have to start repairing rust soon regardless of how well I maintain it.

^I've heard of some folks getting leaks that rot out the floor just like the squares at the rocker/door sill under the carpet. I'm not sure how common the issue is in the Burbs/Hoes, but I saw a few pickups with it. Can't remember what the reason was, I think it was weather stripping trapping salt from shoes and such. Damn "rust belt" lol

I've not heard that but doesn't surprise me. In my '07 I need to replace the weather stripping already as it's worn near the bottom on at least two of the doors and at the back gate. I haven't pulled the trigger yet because the weather stripping is still only available via the dealership which is $$$. None of the issues are causing any leaks yet, however.

Subaru sent me a recall notice for that very thing and said to bring in the car to have brakes line replaced if it was in the states listed because of the road salts. CA wasn't listed but at least they addressed the issue for those in snowy states that have road salts laid down on the roads.

I haven't seen an ad for it, but will keep looking.

Driving around Hwy 100 (East of I94) in Oak Creek, WI there's a seemingly nice shortbed stepside for sale in someone's driveway.

Didn't stop and look, but if you're around it may be worth a peek.
