I thnk I'd go with manifolds if you're intent is to leave the truck stock. Headers usually bring other problems to the table. They work good, but it's been my experience heads take away from maintenance free items, and can get in the way at times. If no purpose for them, I'd just go manifolds. If you do go headers, be prepared to likley need to replace plug wires and route them differently or you'll burn them.

And make sure you get some type of locking mechanism for the bolts...Or safety wire them.

why? I never did locking bolts or safety wire and have only had one or 2 bolts come loose. You check them every so often to be sure but only on my truck have I ever had bolts loosen and both were my fault for not torqueing them down enough.

Exactly. If you just check them all every month or so, after about a year you won't have to worry about it again because they will stay put. It's not a big deal, I've got an old Mac wrench that just happens to work in every header bolt location, so it only takes a minute.

So those 2 bolts don't come loose.

Ordered these today from Jegs. Jegs matched the amazon price.
You're not going to notice much gain at all with those shorties compared to manifolds and you just wasted your money (again), Dave.

x2!!!!! You can get shorties for a quarter of that price but I guess when it's gov't money it don't matter

Thats cheapest I could find in stainless steel. Someone on FSC posted to my same thread that he gained some lower end torque with his shorty headers by gibson. Mom bought them not the wife.

Is that a seat of the pants guesstimation of torque gain? I'm a regular on FSC as well and there is a LOT of BS that is spewed there and only about 10% of it is actually factual especially as it pertains to the subject of exhaust.

as I said my 2 bolts came loose because I didn't tighten them to spec. I don't see a point in expensive tie wire bolts or locking type that'd be a real PITB to remove if you had to when I can just check them every once in awhile. If you use loctite then they are fine the first time. I never do so I check em, this was the first time I ever found one loose. I know it was my fault because all the other headers we've had since 97 have never had loose bolts. We had a truck had loose manifold bolts once.

:waytogo: Not really convincing but thank you for linking it up. Let us know what you think of them once they're installed.
