Thats no lie, Mine was around $4800 bux when I bought it back in 2005. Now I would be doing REALLY good to get 1200-1500 bux out of it.I wouldn't say "invest". They drop in value drastically, just like driving a new car off the dealer lot.
Dave noone in there right mind would pay you 100-200 for diagnostics hook up, Hell I feel guilty charging ANYTHING. The computer diagnostics is included into my labor charge as long as I get the work todo after diagnostics I make money.Yea I got what he said that part of the business in auto repair. Start charging your customers $100-200 to hookup the scantool to there vehicle to see whats wrong. Thats how you get the money to update it.
I'll probably end up going that route anyway. Probably have to spend around $1000 to get one that does brake/abs codes and brake bleeding in a bottom line scantool with limited features.
THE ONLY TIME YOU SHOULD CONSIDER BUYING YOUR OWN SCANNER IS IF YOU ARE WORKING FLAG TIME AND YOU HAVE LIMITED ACCESS TO A SCANNER BECAUSE OF OTHER TECHS USING IT WHEN YOU NEED IT.
