Did you mechanically strip it? If you ever have to do it again, look into professional metal strippers. They usually charge roughly $30-40 to dip it and it doesn't affect the chrome. Just strips rust and paint.

If the chrome is halfway decent, I've had good luck using barkeepers friend and a Dobie pad to bring them back to life. On old rusty chrome bike frames I give them an OA bath and they come out almost as good as new.

I've had great luck with simple paint remover and steel wool...

Alright thanks I’ll look into it, the rear bumper is also painted black but it’s chrome so I’ll try that.
