I have some factory bumper guards I'd like to install on my stock bumper. When done, it'll look like this Pic I found of a similar truck.

I got the two bumper bolts on each side removed, but when I go to put the bumper guard on, it almost seems like the holes don't quite line up. I'm guessing I have to remove the rubber front and then poke the fixed stud through the bottom hole and then get it lined up and push the removable stud through?

First off you have to be sure they’re for the correct year. The bumper designs are different after 1980

There are also different guards for the bumpers that had the factory black rub strip on the bumper too.

Also, they are left and right. Very slight angle difference.

70's vs 80's bumpers are different?
They changed in 81. You should have the 73 - 80 unless you changed the bumper.
The bolts usually don't have to come out of the bumper horns to install. At least not the 81+. I have them for my 82 and 83 k5's.

This is the correct side profile for a 73-80 bumper. Should have 2 indentations.

Got it, guys. Thanks. I've got the proper bumper and the proper bumper guards, but only the right side will go on properly. Turns out the left side of the bumper was sort of crimped a little from a chain connected to the front tow hook. I tried heating the bumper with a blow torch and pounding back with rubber mallet. Got it pretty close, but not enough for it to fit right.

So... I'll either replace the bumper one day and install them, or just sell the bumper guards.

There is a lot of adjustability with these bumpers/mounts. You may able to loosen all the bolts and then install the bumper guards.

The bottom bolt is fixed on both of them. Top bolts move in and out or can be removed. Even with the top bolt removed, it doesn't line up even close. Maybe I'm missing something though?

By chance do they sit at the correct angle when you set up against the bumper like the picture you posted? If you have 2 lefts or 2 rights one will be turned off to the side.

Can you adjust the upper bumper bracket? Part #13 in the LMC link.

I didn't realize the bumper guards came in left and right? That may have been part of my problem. When I tried fitting it, I just used one of the bumper guards. It fit on the passenger side, but not on the driver side. I figured it was because the bumper was a little tweaked. When I hold it up, it basically doesn't allow me to even put the top bolt in at all. It's like it needs to be taller. Even when I remove the top bolt completely and try to line it up, it doesn't look even remotely like it will fit. But if it has a left and right that might explain it

Those adjustable bumper mounts #13 haven't even come in to play yet

I know this is a little late but I recently put some guards on my 84. The fixed bolt was twisted off on both of them so I had to drill them out and replace with carriage bolts so the rubber strips would clear. This gave me a lot of adjustment room. I also noticed that both pieces were marked with an L & R.

What style are you looking for? I don't think the chrome ones are correct for an '89. I got my set for my '85 off eBay. The second ones my still be available from GM since they are not as popular.
