Nice truck. I’d come borrow it from you if it was a Big Dooley, but I’ll leave you to it! Were these 454/4L80E trucks? You don’t see a lot of the ‘91 crews, at least I don’t. The Blazers, Jimmies, and Burbs seem to be a tad more common.
There was a 4L80 option on I believe, only the '91. With 4x4 it came with an NP205... AND the GM shift controller that I think piggybacked the
ECM or perhaps was stand alone? Anyway... THAT model is the Holy Grail.

I think the holy grail that everyone is thinking of is the passenger drop, 32 spline, NP241's with VSS that were in 90-91 K20-30 CC and K20 suburbans. There isn't anything special about a NP205 for a 4L80. Any K30 from the late 80's that was mated to a TH400 would have a NP205 with the round adapter that would bolt right up to a 4L80. The figure 8 ones only need a 2wd 4L80 and they also bolt right up. The indexing ring on the NP205 just needs a small adapter or you can have it machined just a little smaller. I think the only ones that had NP205's mated to a 4L80e from the factory might have been late CUCV's?

Thanks for all the welcomes. I’ve spent too much time on this site but it has already helped out a bunch. Have the bed off and some of the parts and pieces to fix the poorly done axle flip. The pinion angle is off by almost seven degrees so I’ll have to address that - pointed down towards the front. Lock cylinder was shot and when I pulled the wheel and such to swap it out, the little spring clip/retainer for the key buzzer contact

fell into the bowels of the column, so out it came. Everything leads deeper and deeper, mission creep is in full force. I need one more piece from NAPA tomorrow and I’ll have the column whole again and can move to the frame and rear suspension work.

They would have definitely had it in the computer, which goes from an ECM to a PCM with the added trans controls. It’s crazy how you have all the old style transmissions in 1990, the TH400, 700R4, 200-4R, 440-T4, and then almost everything goes electronic in almost every vehicle in 1991. All you had was the 700R4 holding out in lighter trucks till ‘92, and then it was gone after that, too. I guess it’s the winds of change, but

I’ve had good luck with all those transmissions named above, and they do everything their successors do without all the bullcrap minus the 4L80E. Although if GM would have wanted to build a beefy, hydraulically controlled four-speed OD auto, I’m sure they could have. Torqueflite did with the 47RH, and some would argue they can do better than a 4L80E. Ford, as usual, dropped the ball. I’m only half kidding, by if you tow seriously with that E4OD, Ford didn’t do any kind of added cooler, and some of the parts weaker on the earlier ones so expect to burn it.
