78 C10 Big Ten package w/ no power.

Been trying to get my 78 running for the year and had no power, initially thought it was the battery. But found this broken wire, I twisted them together roughly and got it to fire up. But I don't want to drive it like that. Any advice on what wire this is and how to fix it? Thanks.

That is fusible link wire. Needs to be replaced with same gauge.

It’s probably a 14 gauge fusible link, protecting a 10 gauge wire.

Like others said it’s a fusible link that has burnt up.

There are two hot leads that power up the fuse block, that is one of them.

IIRC one of the two feeds the ignition switch, headlights, …

The other feeds almost everything else in the cab.

Both of the wires on that spot on the firewall should have fusible links, and there should be another fusible link on the battery lug of the starter. Since one has burned out it’s a good idea to inspect the others. When you do get it repaired it’s a good idea to keep a close eye on things for a while after, there is a good chance whatever short caused it to burn hasn’t been repaired. You can save yourself a headache by disconnecting the battery if the link starts getting warm after being reconnected.
