My ‘73 has a pulsating/rubbing sound that pulses/rubs a higher frequency when I drive faster and slower/longer as a I slow down. So, as I come to a stop, it’s a loooong, high pitched rubbing sound.

This sound was happening before I did a complete front brake job this year, and it continues to make the sound. It’s loud and annoying.

My first thought is rear drum brakes, but any experience with this? I had rear drum brakes serviced, including replacement of the wheel cylinder and master cylinder, a year ago. Another shop checked the rear brakes and said the first shop did a good job, but wondering if they need attention again.

If so, I’ll tackle the rear brakes myself with any suggestions here.

Tips appreciated.

It's possible that the pads on the backing plate that the shoes ride on may need some grease. If the drum is a little eccentric it wil move the shoes around and make them rub on those pads.

Naturally make sure everything is functioning and adjusted properly while you're in there.

Weak return springs on drum brakes can cause noise. Unless the noise is isolated to either front or rear de-squeak both ends. Clean slides, scuff rotors and lube front brakes.
