Blinkers messed up.

Hey guys. Sometimes my blinkers work, sometimes they don’t. They seem lazy, as in they either don’t work at all or they blink slow and then eventually stop all together. I re-grounded both the front lights, no improvement, any ideas?

Flasher unit is under the dash, it's a small round metal can like thing. Inside is a set of contacts that literally make the flashing occur. The symptoms you describe sound like the flash unit going out.

Are all the bulbs working? Are they the correct ones? If all good then there's a contact thats loose or corroded. Maybe the flasher got kicked by your foot and isn't making good contact or maybe you broke it.

I had a faint illumination in the signal arrow last week and it was letting me know a bulb was out. Not sure if this was part of the original design of the blinkers or not but I like that it does let you know a bulb is out. Anyone know if it was designed to do that or if it is a happy accident?

Something like this. It’s plugged into the fuse panel. I think some trucks have 2 but I’m not sure why.

Funny you say that. I just cleaned the brake pedals in my trucks this morning, but there’s already some pesky dirt on the darn things!

Another vote for the flasher. Your truck should have 2. One for the turn signals and one for the hazard lamps. Take the one from the hazard lamps and put in place of the turn signal flasher. As long as you dont have any issues with your hazard lamps, and your issue is the flasher then this will confirm it. Free to try and no parts store run needed...yet.

I did the old swap on the flashers, you all were right! It’s a darn flasher! I appreciate it folks! Glad I didn’t dig into my grounds more than I did...

iirc, the arrow being dim or faster is an intended and otherwise necessary function to show you are down a bulb. I think the fact its dim is more the circuit isnt grounding the intended amount possibly while sending current
