I think y'all are right. The 396 BBC came in the Chevelle. The 400 SBC was offered in the trucks.
I just had an epiphany they also came in the Laguna SS. I remembered working on one of them ugly things with 400 and 4speed. And the OP added 73-80 which the A body stopped in 77. Which was the Laguna platform.

You don't like the Laguna? It's not my favorite, but I sure do love the Montes and El Caminos from 73-77.

The Laguna fits into the same category as the Dodge Magnum and the Grand Prix aero coupe looking thing. My A body stops at 70.lol

When you say air intake, do you mean an air cleaner/breather or an intake manifold? The air cleaner would need to be off an SBC or BBC, and the intake manifold would need to be from a car or truck with an SBC through 1986. If we're talking Quadrajets, it's a similar deal. Trucks will generally have them through 1986, but you don't want to get one off a car that was made after 1980 because those will be feedback Quadrajets.
--------------------------------------------------Yes meant intake manifold

My question is they went to roller cam......and well let me know how that cam works with roller lifters.

A flat tappet cam will physically work in the roller blocks, you just need the correct lifters to go with it.

The 400 was popular in vans.
Sadly, it's not one of the best mills offered by GM. Something about the bore size, the cylinder castings are connected and they don't cool
properly resulting in the bores not remaining true, so hard for rings to seal. The more they get used, or the harder they get used the heat cycles just make the problem worse.
Anyway, still better than a 305..

And I completely agree. But that is the whole reason behind the years list that someone was talking about earlier.
Not to mention added expense of push rods, but see the reasoning behind the break down just don't see the reasoning for down grading an engine to inferior technology.:beatdeadhorse5:
