I have a 78 C20 camper special and it's got loads of holes in the tailpipe and some in the muffler which make it sound like a turd. It sounds super weak and I wanted to buy a new muffler and patch all the old holes/replace tailpipe. What's a good muffler that sounds pretty good but isn't loud. I like the more raspy sounding mufflers than low rumble ones, but I have no idea what to look for. What mufflers usually sound nice on a c20?

Look into Borla ProXS. I like them. I’ve been told the trick to that really clean rasp sound, is to use mandrel bends, no crush bends. I may rebuild my exhaust with mandrel bends to test that theory...someday

Resonator and a muffler. I went with two glasspacks on my single exhaust. A shorty upstream, a long one downstream where the old muffler was. I will be adding a third shorty before the exit out the back soon to quiet it down just a tad more, but it's not too bad right now.

It doesn't matter what muffler you run until you hear a big block with some compression and cam.
