Best Replacement OEM Style Power Window Motor

Hello Square Brethren,

Unfortunately the motor for my drivers side door window has failed finally. Right in time for the great spring weather that is perfect for cruising without AC. It only goes down about 2 inches then makes a loud stuttering clamour and goes all the way back to the top and makes the same sound when all the way up. With many house and life expenses happening all at once I have decided to take the job on myself after doing some research to save some $$. I am not interested in upgrading to a faster version like the one LMC has Kevin Tetz doing the video for. I just want the window to work like it did before. I don't mind waiting 20 seconds for the window to go down and back up, I just want it to work and don't want to have to install new components and then find a place to ground and mount brackets etc.. Y'all know what I mean. I plan on greasing up all the moving parts really well before re-install.

So, please lend thoughts on a "best or better" replacement OEM style power window motor that you all might suggest?

I just went to my local Orielly's and got new motors and regulators. Work well. Took me about an hour on each side. I did not think it was that bad of a job.

I ordered one from rockauto, I'm sure it was cardone. Has worked good. The full regulator assembly I got from rock auto had the wrong connection on the motor and no pigtail included. So I used the new or rebuilt motor with the factory plug.

People underestimate how much lube helps things. I'm sure the motor is tired and yours definitely sounds like some gears are stripped. But after cleaning and lubing my old regulator with new motor, it's SUPER fast. I don't see a need for a relay kit or any upgrade other than it's a better way to apply power. I'm not lacking in voltage though.

You just have to get the regulator arms in the proper position and just have to wiggle and wriggle it out. Somewhere about halfway through its travel was the sweet spot.

Does anyone think it's possible to correct without replacing the motor? Has anyone out there had a successful experience without replacing the motor?

It's most likely just the plastic gear on the regulator. But I'm not sure if there is a replacement for that. I know the new regulators come with a new one.

There is a house in my neighborhood with a late 40's to early 50's chevy that has been sitting in the driveway for years with blocks behind each tire. Very similar looking to your 48. I'm gonna try to snap a pic and post it. I gotta be careful though because I found the 87 I drive in a driveway about 3 blocks up the street from this older one I'm talking about. I always want to go ask about it but never have gotten the curage/cash.

I got a Dorman and swpped it in. Lubed it really good with some White Lightning grease. Works great. Right after I switched my oil pressure sending unit. Great feeling. I'm so proud Ha!!!

Here is a couple snap shots of the OG Chevy right down the street from the driveway I found my '87 in. I took these while driving by...SLOWLY. Sorry for the blurriness. I think this could be a 1951?
