best rear for towing

Get a 3/4 ton 14-bolt (8-lug full-floater) they have the same width between the leaf spring pads as a 1/2 ton. One tons are set up for dual wheels (usually) and are narrower between the spring pads. Other than that, and a little difference in the ribbing of the 3rd member casting there's no difference.

as far as towing, what are your feeling on gov loc's- detroit loc ect...

Gov Locs arent too bad in a 14-bolt. I would rather have limited slip or even open diff than a locker in a tow rig though. I would go for a limited slip if it were me. For my mud truck it got welded lol.

Open would be the best and cheapest for towing.

If you werent 10 hrs away I have
2 14 bolts and a dana 60 in my parts collection I'm selling
Big Bearing flattop Knucle dana 44 front diff ect...
