Best Flowmaster

Hey all,

I am currently running a true 87 EFI 350sbc with headers and no cat with true duals with some generic muffler. They sound ok, but id like something louder. I don't wanna run straight pipe or something that I will piss off the entire neighbor hood but id like something with a deep loud idle and not something that will drone like crazy. I have done a lot of reading on the forum but most posts don't tell you if you have a cat or not. I do NOT run cats so I believe its obviously going to be louder. \

It seems like people love the 40 series , however I believe that will be too loud, so i'm bouncing around between the Super 44 and the Super 40 (quieter). I just need guys who don't run cats but also run duals give me some input. I understand this is a "generic" question that's open to many responses. I don't run cats. I'd say a super 44 is pretty barky. Not bad though. Probably more than what you want. I would recommend a crossover pipe. H-pipes really take the popcorn out and smooths the whole rpm range, brings the volume down slightly too.

The Flowmaster “50” series used to be their quiet ones.. not sure about now.

I like it, a lot depends on the length of the tail pipes. A better version would include a lumpy cam

Run them 40 series and getcha an H pipe.

What type of muffler is the current "generic" muffler? Crimped case? Welded case? Knowing what you might have now will make it easier to determine what you may need to go louder. Most of the cheap and generic welded case mufflers are a direct copy of a Flowmaster 40 series. Also, what size piping do you have?

Bucket im only saying generic cus there is absolutely no marking at all on the muffler , not even a P/N or S/N. Its also 2.5". Right now its got a great sound but its a little quiet. I know that running no cats makes a huge difference on muffler sound even if you are running a high flow cat. But i have none so Id like it loud but not obnoxious.

That's why I was asking what type of muffler you have now. Everyone has their own opinion on what's loud. If it's a welded type muffler that you have now, the selection of what might be louder will be less. But if it's a crimped case muffler, it's probably just a typical "turbo" muffler and there's a lot of options to go louder, along with different tones.

Also, there's more to the cats/no cats thing. Yes, running without them will make the exhaust louder. Especially when compared to the old, pellet style converters. But compared to modern, high flow type converters, it's not so big of a difference in sound.

Caution, loud exhausts, loud bands, loud machinery in your youth(<40) got me to where I am today. CHS, can’t hear ****.

Same here.^^^^^^^^^^^^..plus heredity... this is why I have hearing "instruments"..........my only saving grace was our Armed forces didn't want me.....couldn't depend on someone who couldn't hear????

My 78' with a 350, headers with 3"collector, no cats and true duals with 3" flowmaster super 44s sounds amazing at idle but drone due to where i put them. But the truck has got alot of compliments on its sound. Mine dump with 90° bends turned at a 45° angle right before the rear.
