I’m wanting to rebuild or replace my brake master cylinder. Nothing malfunctioning, but for the sake of preventative maintenance.

There are three listings for master cylinders from Napa on a k30. I think the last one, p/n M2533, is the hydro boost/diesel option; but the reservoir cap states “DOT3 ONLY”:

If I look at my brake master cylinder, it is p/n 2231532. My reservoir cap states “DOT5 ONLY”

When I google those they go for close to $500. What gives? Am I missing something?

Finally, is the a rebuild/seal kit specific to dot5? I was always told that if a system is thoroughly flushed, it can run any fluid type ie dot 3/4, dot5 and dot5.1. Albeit extremely difficult to fully remove all of one type of fluid.

Stay away from DOT 5. DOT 5.1 is OK. I don't remember why. Maybe someone can help.

I bought the M2533 for mine. I don't like using rebuilt M/C's. I still have the M/C that came on my truck and it has the same casting number, but the pre-fix is 128. There is some other casting to the right of the main cast number, but it doesn't have enough detail to read.

I've had 5 GM trucks up to 2004 model year with hydro-boost. All of them ran DOT-3 and I've never had any issues even towing travel travelers over the Sierras.
