I have a 6.5 diesel swapped into a squarebody and currently trying to install a sm465 behind it. I got the transmission from marketplace so not sure what year (was told it was 70’s) or what motor it was behind. I have a brand new flywheel and clutch all on the motor already and I went to put the bell housing on and it doesn’t quite line up. Very very close but looks like the bell housing doesn’t quite fit on both nubs and hitting the starter?? Are the bbc and sbc bell housing the same or am I missing something? Flywheel and clutch all came with the truck but I assume it’s the 11”, do I need the 10.5”?

They should be the same bellhousing but the transmission dowels on the 6.5 block may be bigger.

The dowels are the same, I am not an expert but, I don't think a bellhousing for an 10.5" clutch will fit over an 11" clutch. Also, have you tried the fitment without the starter in place?

Yes I just tested it without the starter and it fit correctly. I ordered the power master 9052 starter for it

the trans originally had a z bar clutch, did you have a hydraulic setup to put on it? I see you said you had the bellhousing and all the stuff for it, just making sure they were hydraulic (for an 87) but if you have an earlier 80s, it may be z bar. zbar setup will need more parts if your truck wasnt a manual and putting them together correctly

Hi pmehringer001.
Here are a couple bellhouse part numbers for your 465.
They are for the 12" clutch or smaller you can see the bigger casing on the bottom for clearance of the clutch pressure plate and flywheel. There are 2 im showing you one for the Z bar. The other for the external hydraulic clutch cylinder.

Both of these fit to my 454 mk iv, with no issues. Cant say for your 6.2 D.
My sm465 is from a 76 C20, not that there is any mounting differences over the years, only input shaft bearing size in the trans itself, which wont effect the bellhousing.
