BBC 454 dipstick length?

Ok I changed the oil in the square today.

Look at them tires shining still after 3 weeks and a couple rains. Lol

Anyways, I put 7 quarts in and it bearly touches the dipstick.

So question is how long is your 454 dipstick?

This one is one of the aftermarket chrome jobbers and I think it might be short.


Still has good oil pressure at idle

Mine did the same thing. I just put 7 quarts and did a pipe cutter on the tube to get it reading correct

Do you have a stock oil pan or aftermarket? Stock *should be five quarts, not including whatever your filter takes holds.

I run a Moroso Deep sump pan with their matching dipstick- 7qts in the pan and one in the filter is pretty much dead nuts to the full mark on the dipstick.

Wix or Napa, which coincidentally are the same filters. I run a Napa 1061 on my 454, it's the one we put on in the engine shop from the parts room and it's the only one i'll run. If my Engine guy is putting them on his rebuilds, it's because he's done the research so it's good enough of an answer for me!

Ok we're at about the same mark on tape.

Do you put in 8 quarts to get to the full Mark?

About 7.5 qt puts it in full.

It is a stock oil pan.

I just don't want to over fill it and cause problems. How do I tell what oil pan I have?
