Basic valve cover questions

Hmmm, you do realize that air intake tube is a total 100% waste and not even needed and not even doing a damn thing for that air cleaner right??? I'd have removed that long ago and left it off with that air cleaner.

Actually that air intake tube does deliver outside air through the 4" hole in the radiator support which has to be cooler
than the "under hood" air on summer days.
Beside... I like it.

Which would make sense, if, you had the air cleaner lid on instead of the set-up you have that draws 90% of it's intake air from it's immediate environment. (i.e. the hot under hood air)

I'm curious because I live in Arizona and its about to get hot as hell, would an intake tube with a sealed air cleaner actually make a big difference over an open cleaner?

EXACTLY !!! But so long as he likes it, that's more important than how effective it is.

The outside air is gonna be hot, but i'd be willing to bet its cooler outside the engine bay than inside it. Maybe toss a quick thermometer inside the engine bay and drive around, pop the hood and check what it reads. See if it's hotter outside versus inside the bay.

no need, fuel injection tells you these things. Myself and a few on the corvette forums have been working on this. I regularly see 140+ intake air temps (IAT) on my car while sitting and low speed cruising with an open element. Wile driving at interstate speeds the high pressure at the windshield forces air in the cowl hood and i see IAT drop to below 100 degrees. I need to get my hood sealed to the air cleaner so its outside air temp all the time.

Was more of an idea to determine if it's worth it to route ducting for cooler air, or just keep it simple and pull in the engine bay temps. Especially for @Obwonkonobe being out in the middle of the desert with summer coming up. May not be a huge difference between the air temp and the engine bay temps for him.

I'd love to go with a functional cowl hood for our trucks in the future. Just a solid amount of planning will have to go into it.

they sit low and wont clear most 1.6 roller tipped rockers... that and price is why I dont have them on my vette.

Good idea, I'll have to try that here once it gets cooking

Those are the exact '84 Corvette covers I just put on my K10.
With a little imagination and painting technique they can look much better
than the stock stamped steel covers that I started with.
