Take it easy on me for a potentially stupid question. I have searched for an answer but I can't find anything.

In the picture below, what is this bar (??) that runs under this 10 bolt/Dana 44 front axle - pointed at by the red arrow?

Not my truck, and not my picture.

I'm sure it's homemade. Just some solid bar stock for a truss. Ugly but cool. Probably doesn't help much.

Like others have said, aftermarket axle truss. Although it could be home made, there was at least a couple companies that offered them. Hickey Enterprises being one of them.

Might leave it for posterity sake. But if you ever get to needing it, it will not be your largest problem if it’s not there….lol.

Those axle trusses were there with the intent of keeping the axle tubes bending from jumping the vehicle. Very popular in the 70s and 80s. For show really, they even had chrome ones.

Even models back then had them front and rear...
