Axle flip problem

i did an axle flip on my 86 C10. The problem I have is the leaf spring plate is blocking my shock mount. Cannot get bolt through. Has anyone had this issue, is there an easy solution. I don’t have a welder on hand.

So to clarify, you had a axle that was under the leaf spring and you flipped it to go on top of the leaf spring?

If this is the case, then you will have oiling problems to the pinion bearing and burn it up.

To make an axle move from under the leaf to over the leaf, you need to cut off the leaf perches and weld them under or buy the brackets that convert that and sit inside the leaf perches.

The guess above is about as good as I could help without some pics of what you are running into. Load some photos of what's going on and someone can probably answer your question.

I'd have to hope that the rear end wasn't actually flipped over (left tire to right side, and right to left). If that were done, pinion oiling would be a minor issue. He'd have one forward gear, and a few for going backwards. Demolition derby style.... Lol

Put the bolt in the other way? Without looking under a truck, I'm having trouble picturing it in my head.

I'll get pictures of it in the morning. It's a belltech flip kit. It is putting the axle above the leaf springs. I removed overload spring also, because I'm putting caltracs on and that's what they suggest. Dropped me 7 inches. Hope it's not to low

Ahh, yeah that's an issue.

I've never installed an axle flip, but I know the spring pin holes are normally offset to move the axle forward or rearward. That must be the reason, to move the shock mount rear of the u-bolt? Did your brackets have offset locating holes?

I’d unbolt the plate/ ubolts
lift up the axle
slip the shock into the axle side mount make sure the bolt head (it’s thinner than the nut) is facing toward the springs, and the nut closer to the diff. Hand tighten
Drop the axle back onto the leaf springs and run those down (don’t tighten all the way down)
Slip shock into top mount.
If all looks good tighten it all down

Only other thing I can think of is those centering pins aren’t aligned

If it's all lined up right and it's a manufacturing error issue still this is your only option really unless you want to relocate your shock mount.

btw you might want to think about buying real good quality shocks, that is going to be a raging pain in the ass to replace shocks each time. Probably why most who drop that low run bags.

I’d think relocating the shock perch would be relatively simple.

Depends on ones skills
You mean like a one time extension (bolt in)?
That might lower it enough to clear each time he swaps shocks
But to relocate the lower you might have to move the upper
Involving a decent way to cut out the axle shock mounts
And hopefully he has skills in welding to replace the mounts...
if I’m cutting or welding on axles it’s for linking not a simple axle shock relocation that’s a lot of work for little gains
