I know this may sound stupid but how do I use the other tank? Currently I'm using the driver side tank but I would like to see if the passenger side will work too. I read the solenoid valve thing goes out commonly and would like to test it. I tried looking through the owners manual but it didn't describe how to do it. Any help is much appreciated

See a big rocker switch on the dash near your ashtray? Flip it and watch for the fuel gauge to change.

Do I do it while it's runnibg or while key is in the off/on position? I don't want to damage anything.

Either running or key in the run position but not started. It needs 12v.

Thank you guys. Well it really don't matter now though. I went to put fuel in it she took it then about an hour later I was stil smelling fuel real strong so I climbed under neath and the tank is wet... So I'm assuming a small hole or something. Oh well paid $500 for the truck can't complain cause it's about to be a daily driver.

But I do ask this. If my selector valve is bad or faulty where would the best place to purchase one and what is the ones to stay away from as far as bad quality?

I think the 88 had the motor driven valve. They're not cheap. Pollak makes the good ones.

See if this looks like yours. The older solenoid valve only had one wire to it. This should have five.

Also, if you can see where the fuel leak is coming from, I have successfully lightly sanded around a leak in a fuel tank and sealed it with a coating of JBWeld about as big around as a silver dollar. It held as long as I had that vehicle.

Where would this valve be at? It's a 1986 Silverado LWB pick up

Will the bed have to be removed in order to access it? If so I will just run the single tank until I lower the truck and build it up

The valve? No. But probably wouldn't hurt to use some ramps or jackstands to give a bit more room.

You don't have to remove the bed it should be right on the crossmber in front of the tanks, my 79 has it on the passenger side.
