Wondering if production numbers are available for the 1977 model year? I have a Fremont built K20 with sequential number 169XXX. I just wanted an idea of how early/late this build might have been.

They are out there, they might even be listed here in the library. It should be around a million or or more.

Before 1990, GM of U.S.A. didn't keep records like that. Canada did after 1981 though but that's only for Canada sold trucks.

I guess I misunderstood. I thought the question was how many trucks were built in '77.

That would be quite an endeavor. Seeing as there were 7-8 plants building trucks, probably 175-300,000+ per plant.

You can look at the door jamb plate, it may have a date on it. I think it's on a sticker on the door though which would be useless if the door's been replaced, sticker painted over, missing or faded.

I've seen the numbers before, I remember it being over 1 million pretty much every year. But I don't remember where I saw the totals. It would have been for all the C/K 10-30 series. Just like the '65-'70 full size Chevy car production was totaled up (a LOT). I have those figures in a book, but no truck book to reference.

Kind of related. Which month of the year dictates whether a vehicle is prior year or current? I noticed the sticker on my truck says 5/1987. Does that mean it's actually an '86?

Thanks!

A million a year? Wow, I guess I just never realized they'd made so many.

Historically model year changeovers happened in the fall but now they can happen any time during the year.

So a truck made in 5/87 would be a 1987 Model year. One made between September and November of a year would depend on when they made the change over.
