Hello. I'm doing a 78 C10 that is a rotisserie build, it's currently still apart and I'm doing the final blocking. I'm going with a medium blue metallic. No pearl, flakes, or anything else. Just blue metallic and a few coats of clear then cut and buff. I've never used House of Kolor anything before but their base coat is around 130 a quart VS PPG (DBC) which is around 1300 a gallon. I found a GM code that I like and can get in PPG but the price is a killer. The HOK color I'm looking at as a substitute is BC04 (Stratto Blue). I would just like to know from someone that has already shot the HOK base how it covers and last, etc. I see that most people that use the HOK base usually come back over it with candy, pearl, etc, but I want just the base alone. Thanks.

I've not used HOK products, but one thing to look at when shopping and comparing pricing for base coat is if it is unreduced or reduced (rts), and if unreduced, what the mix ratio is.

A quick look at the HOK you mention is 2:1 (2parts base, 1 part reducer), so with one gallon you get 1.5 gallon sprayable.

Tamco base coat is mixed 1:1, so 1 gallon of base is 2 gallon sprayable.

Some of the cheaper base coats are pre reduced, so the gallon you buy is just a gallon. Just something to look at and be aware of.

I would look at Tamco though, I've used them and @Grit dog has used them with good success.

I'll take a look at the Tamco, thanks. The HOK that I'm looking at is 2:1 and comes unreduced.
