i put them on my truck when i got it 22 yrs ago.Got pulled over once my friend was working the call desk, never a problem after. Make sure they are glass. The plastic ones arent any good.
I have no clue why they are illegal but they are, and come on there's far worse things for lights then blue dots.
Like black out covers, and all clear ones, those I can understand being illegal, or the solid covers definitely should be. Not to mention the nite shades and crap, it cuts down on seeing them big time.
There's not much on the interent about these as they are illegal in most states and they were only popular back in the 50's and 60's, anyways you can get them real glass with the chrome ring off eBay and they look the best on a small tail light that has not much depth to it. You drill a hole directly in front of the bulb and mount the blue dot in the tail light. Then when the brake is applied and the bulb lights upit puts the light directly through the blue dot and gives off a really cool neon blue lights, that is illegal. A lot of your antique hot rods have them because the tail lights are very small and a lie all the light to concentrate through the blue dot and actually work. Plus they can get away with them because they only drive to car shows. I tried a set on the square tail lights, and they looked like crap, because one they are too big, and to the bulb is way too far back in the lens to sign much light into the blue dot. So they ended up just looking like a black dot in my tail lights at night. But like I said when used in a smaller tell light on a hot rod car, they give off that neon purple, which is really cool. you can see them from a distance of up to like a half mile.
