Anyone know trick to install a new (used) door spring?

Hey all i got a new (used) door spring for '87 v10.

My drivers side is broken.

Ive tried to install this joke of a piece, maybe, 6x. It makes me feel very silly.

Anyone got a trick?

What's the problem you're having? What kind of trick do you need?
I could say "Simply put it in" just as easily as you can say "it's giving me a hard time putting it in". Could you please elaborate as to what problem you're having? IME it seems straightforward, biut if you explain the part you're getting hung up on I'm sure plenty of people could explain how to overcome the issue you're having...

There is a tool for this also! there is a tool for just about everything! Working on automated equipment I had several spring installation/removal tools and once you figured out the tool it was piece of cake

There is a tool for this also! there is a tool for just about everything! Working on automated equipment I had several spring installation/removal tools and once you figured out the tool it was piece of cake

That's even easier! Usually I just guide it into place with a couple big flathead screwdrivers then bang on it once it's wedged into place till it pops over and gets stuck where it belongs. I'll have to remember that, looks super easy. You could probably do the same thing with mechanic wire and keep twisting if you didn't have big zip ties handy. Then just snip off when you're done all the same

Take it off and put it in a vise. Wind the spring with a crescent wrench then tap it down to lock it in place. Reinstall. Ps. Trace around the bolts before removing so they go back in their original adjusted location. Done deal.

You absolutely can install this type without removing the door! It's been a while... I'll do my best. get the spring started at the top. With a bar move the bottom into position and tap it down into place. It seems like a mission impossible, but after you 'get it' it's really easy. Maybe you have to tap it 'up' into position, sorry it's been years. But if you understand what I'm getting at, and believe me it is totally possible, you should be able to figure it out.

Most parts on these ole trucks can be installed using enough beer, 3 ft crow bar and 3 lb. hammer. Key word is ENOUGH beer! Hope this helps!! lol

Thank you - I just found one on a corvette site - I need the bend screwdriver! I' looked all over the place - kept finding the one with coil spring. Looks very similar to the corvette. - I'l make a tool today.

that is the KEY -"tap it 'up' into position" it make sense -100%-

I have small pry bar that will work. It will Im confident.

I think I need to...
1. seat the top -
2. put center into the groove and
3. bend bottom of the 's' over with tool (bent screw driver) then..
4. tap up to seat the bottom in to cut goove. (sorta a goove/hole thing)

pry on it with a big ass screwdriver till it goes into place. It's annoying and it will pop out forty seven times before you get it right, but she'll go.
