My first performance upgrade.
14 bolt 10.5 full float.

I wasn't aware they even made a TrueTrac for the 10.5" axle.

I've wanted one (well, a few actually) for quite a while but I have yet to pony up for one.

I installed one in my FF. Was pretty straight forward. And, yes, it lightened my wallet a bit!

While I have never had one in a 14B FF, I've owned a couple cars/ trucks with Detroit Tru-Trac's. Unless you are purely a race/ off road vehicle, they are probably the best differential I've used. Their street manners are very good and they work almost as well as a locker. My K5 had one in front and I've used them on the rear on a few street cars.

The only locker you want is one you can unlock, like and ARB. Otherwise, a TT limited slip is a great choice.

I replaced my dead Gov Lock and added one to the front as well and love them. I've used them in snow, mud and sand they are seamless and for a heavy vehicle, they have very good manners. Much like Bennyt, if you aren't racing and don't require a full locker, the limited slip TTs are a great add. Not cheap but worth it if you need them.

I went with a Yukon Grizzly in my 14BFF, but I use mine for hunting and offroading. I think @Catbox had one in his suburban and it just recently blew up though.... the helical gears came apart and grenaded the whole thing.

I'd personally go with the Yukon dura-grip rather than the Detroit. Its rebuildable and also has a good reputation. The Detroit apparently can't be rebuilt and if any part fails the entire thing is garbage.

Yuppers.
It was 5 years old-ish and I felt it let go in a parking lot, limped it home and tore it apart.
Now don't get me wrong, it worked flawlessly up until that point.
Diff guy called and no parts available to rebuild and it was out of warranty.
In the scrap it went and we replaced it with a Yukon Dura Grip.

I am not sure at all, but we had a slightly bent axle tube that may have put undue stress on the gears.
But this is a total street vehicle that rarely ever goes tip toeing off the beaten path, it is my wife's grocery getter.

The True Track was great in the snow and sand though.
I never had a worry about whether I NEEDED to flip in the 4wd to get around.
The weight of the vehicle would let it dig and the axle just moved it forward.

Here is a video of @Maxwellvis learning to drive in the snow with the True Track still functional last winter.

Ha, ha, ha, ha,! I remember this! It looks like something was chewing on it!! Man that thing must have sounded like rocks in a box banging around in the rear end. DANG! What you replaced it with does look good though. That's a real nice pattern on the ring gear. Good setup.

I run an Eaton Posi Performance limited slip. It's rebuildable and you can adjust the springs so you can tune it do your needs. Works great and carbon clutches are advertised to last 100.000miles, but that depends on the level abuse. It's important to run the right oil.

Mine just arrived at the warehouse today!! Going in my 91 burb... Catbox, you got me a bit worried, lol! The grizzly was my second choice.

First time swapping a diff... No I have a ton of other rebuilding experience, engine, tranny, etc, so I'm not too worried. I'll let you know how they install goes in a couple weeks.

I eventually want to regear my 90 burb from 3.73 to 4.10 and add truetrac in both axles. someday I'll have an excuse to do it. looking forward to hearing about this!

I've had the eaton truetrac in the front of my truck since at least January of 2014. Might have had it longer- can't find my notes on when it was put in.

Never had any issues with it. Ran 285s at first, then 315s and now for the last year 37s on it. Have used it in mud, sand, snow, ice, dirt, pavement, hill climbing... pretty much everything except for a full mud bog pit. It has been great. No issues steering it either when its slick out.
