That's not the crappy turquoise color but an 87 is too early to be electron blue, what is that great color?

It's called Medium Blue Metallic. They came with either a blue or graphite grey interior. Mine is the grey.

Looks like you got it taken care of. This was my fun truck until my roommate burned out the trans, been looking for another with no luck and the rebuilders around here are butchers.

Thanks. It's really cool to see that TPI in your truck.

@Midnightmoon,

I don't know much about Vette's, is that the way yours came with the instrument display like that? That's cool. I've not seen that before. It reminds me of some '50's instrument cluster reading with a colored bar going up as your speed increased.

Yes, the early C4's used that digital dash display. It is sometimes referred to as the "Space Invaders" dash, after the old video game.

This blog has a nice overview of how the dash designs evolved over the years.

Last weekend I gave it a good old fashioned tuneup. Just typical ignition stuff, cap, rotor, etc. I also swapped out the coil and ignition module. It appears that everything was the original 34 year old parts. Replaced them with ACDelco parts.

I also picked up 2 spare OEM 16x8.5 wheels off of Ebay. They need a good cleaning/polishing. But, should shine up well with a little work. I have a plan for these wheels, but will detail that if/when the tires I ordered actually show up.

Just for future reference if you have anymore issues...

If you have good fuel pressure but have driveability issues as if there's a lack of fuel pressure, also pinch off the return hose. If the car then runs great, the injectors likely need replaced, even if they ohm good.

@bucket Sorry to be pulling up this old thread. But, I have an injector question for you. I'm still on the factory GM Multec injectors, now some 35 years old. I'm starting to get some raw fuel smell out of the exhaust and a bit of haze when it is first started. (Definitely fuel not oil smell). Even though they are showing good resistance and pulse OK, I'm getting a pretty quick fuel pressure leakdown after it is shut down. I'm thinking that it is time to replace them.

If I go down that road, do you suggest new Delphi injectors, which are a direct replacement. Or, do you prefer the Bosch 3's that many people seem to be running? Costs are fairly comparable between either brand for new injectors. I have been able to find some reman Bosch 3's for considerably less.

I am using the Bosch D3's in my L29 454. They are WAY nicer than the garbage stock injectors that came on it. I have gone to 30lb TPI ones and they fit very well with the custom machined tip extensions that they put on these ones. I bought a full set from South Bay injectors. They were crazy fast on the shipping and look to be in great shape.

They also sell a full gasket kit and adjustable TPI FPR for a pretty reasonable price.

Thanks. I've been looking at SouthBay. I'm assuming that yours are also remans like the ones listed in your link above correct?

Yes, I have the 30lb reman ones. The stock L29 injectors are 19lb and they top out pretty quick with any kind of extra power output.
