I have a 396 that was pulled out of my truck (not original, truck is a 78 C10) . I was told it was a 1969 when we went to get it and that turns out to be correct. My heads are 1972 heads off of a 402/454.
My Block Casting number is 3955272, which is a 1969 396.
My partial VIN is as follows: 19_378285
The missing 3rd character should be a letter, most likely a K for Kansas City.
What I have figured out so far is that the 1 is for Chevrolet, the 9 is for the year 69 and the the last 6 are the last 6 of the VIN of the vehicle it was in.
The engine ID Code up front is T1226JK. I know the T is Tonawanda, the 1226 is December 26th, but I don't know what the JK means.
Anyone know that the JK means or what any of the 6 numbers on the vehicle vin mean? Some of the things I have read indicate the 37 means sport coupe. Any help would be appreciated, just trying to see if I can determine what the block was originally installed in.
Attached are some pics. You really have to blow up the second pic to make it out.
